tonight i heard the most comforting words i have heard in a long, long time

and they were these: “you are my best friend in the world. i love you.” i can’t really explain why i needed to hear that so badly, or why it affected me as much as it did. but i don’t know. just… tell the people you love that you love them. you never know when it will make a difference.

Taylor Swift’s Favorite Storyline (via bethbluestocking)

This article is really well-thought-out and well-written concerning both Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga.  My favorite part: “Other girls are obstacles; undeserving enemies who steal Taylor’s soulmates with their bewitching good looks and sexual availability. Unfortunately for these mute yet effortlessly hunky jungle-eyed boys, by choosing the “beautiful” girls over Taylor (who is, suspiciously… also beautiful…), they’re missing out on Taylor’s unique understanding of their heart/inner fireball/angelic rainshower/sweet glory of Jesus. “

If you tend to tl;dr often, set aside some time to read this. Really great article.

EXACTLY. EXACTLY EXACTLY EXACTLY THANK YOU GOD ALMIGHTY SOMEONE ELSE GETS IT.

“If Swift’s work connects with teenage girls, it does so on the most simplistic, reductive territory of all: pining for boys, walking in the rain, kissing in the rain, crying drops of tears on her guitar, driving in trucks with cool boys, wanting boys she can’t have, more rain, more letter-writing, more stalking, more broken hearts, breathing problems as a side-effect of broken hearts, fairytale princess this, white horse that, more pining at the window, more psuedo-stalking, more incomplete hearts yearning for your touch, and one song that misinterprets Shakespeare and The Scarlet Letter so criminally I’m certain she’s never read either.”

well i came home this morning, and i sat outside on a little bench in the cold and drank my coffee and watched people going to work. and the sun is up, and the sky is clear, and the snow is lovely, and no matter what happens or has happened or will happen to me, i just can’t help feeling like everything’s gonna be alright.

modern romantic

on his way out of starbucks, a man (late twenties, wearing a red scarf) stopped and held the door for me. surprised and pleased, i said, “thank you!” he responded with a jerk of his chin and the words, “yeah, welcome, babe.”
